It looks like Jim Ross’ time with WWE could be soon coming to an end again. Ross is currently under contract with the professional wrestling juggernaut but hasn’t been used much. Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer reports that Jim Ross will be off the AXS NJPW TV shows from December 31st to March 31st.
WWE reportedly offered Jim Ross a huge contract to return in 2017, in an attempt to keep him from the ITV relaunch of World of Sport. At the time, Jim Ross was under contract with AXS through the end of 2017. Part of Jim Ross’ WWE deal was to allow him to honor his remaining AXS deal.
In 2018 Vince McMahon allowed Jim Ross to sign a one-year deal to continue working with AXS. However, WWE then declined to allow Jim Ross to sign with Quintet, which is a tag team Japanese grappling promotion that launched this year by MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba.
Jim Ross was then denied permission to sign a 2019 deal with AXS. It’s believed that Jim Ross will sign a new deal with AXS when he’s free to do so. His current WWE deal will expire on March 31st. It was added that there’s always the chance Jim Ross could resign with WWE if given a big enough offer, but it’s ultimately believed he will be done come March.
