Almost 40 years ago, Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson would sit around the McMahon family pool and brainstorm new creative ideas. Some of WWE’s most influential characters, signings, and angles were created around the family pool including the Royal Rumble match. Nearly every feud on WWE programming at the time was created at this pool, however, a new feud was about to begin.
Legend has it that Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson loved pushing people into the pool. Shane McMahon recalls that talent would commonly come to the McMahon home to do business and more often than not, end up in the pool. A harmless McMahon rib, right? Well a young Shane McMahon didn’t think so after he was pushed into the pool one too many times. Shane McMahon decided to hide in a bush behind Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson during one of these meetings, eventually charging at his father and launching him into the pool. Apparently, Vince McMahon didn’t like the retaliation dished out by his son and during the Stone Cold Podcast, recalls literally chasing Shane McMahon off the property! The teenage Shane O’mac hopped into his car and bailed, not coming home until nighttime when Linda Mcmahon called and said Vince McMahon had cooled down.
Almost 20 years later, Steve Austin became the next man to shove Vince McMahon into the pool, this time, with less aggressive of a response.
